If it is going to be 17 degrees out, it might as well snow!!!!!!!!

I am sure happy that it is winter break and M doesn't have Sunday school tomorrow!

For the last night of Chanukah, Matthew got Marine TYcoon for the zoo tycoon game. I sure am wasting a lot of time on it, and it is eating into my Harry Potter time. LOL

Had a great day at the in laws, brother in law followed the Alton Brown advice on cooking a rib roast. mmmm came out wonderful! ... time to help Bill get the kids in bed.
Is it common for strangers to tell children they don't know that they better behave today (yesterday) cause you know who is flying by tonight? I mean, really, I was so annoyed. M and I were walking out of the eye Dr.'s and going down on the elevator. A man went in with us. Matthew started jumping on the elevator, something the kids do when it is just us... something fun about jumping during acceleration or deceleration. Anyway, I reminded M that someone else was on the elevator and he couldn't jump. He stopped right away, perfect, right?

Then I made the mistake of being polite and explaining to this guy that the kids like to jump on the elevator but they can't do it when others are they cause it shakes the elevator and freaks people out.

This guy then decided do threaten my son with Santa not coming for him if he doesn't behave today. HUH? Even if we did celebrate Christmas, what business is it of this stranger to try to discipline a perfectly fine child, who was doing nothing wrong, with the threat of losing toys? What gives him the right? I stopped him before he got too far, but I was annoyed. I smiled and told him we no, stop, don't until he stopped and then I told him we don't celebrate that holiday. I don't know what he thought, we were leaving anyway.

When R was little, a nice cashier asked R what she hoped Santa was bringing her. Yes, that is uncomfortable but the cashier was trying to be nice and sweet. So I wasn't annoyed. It was a little funny though. The cashier had said Merry Christmas and R smiled and said thank you or Merry Christmas back (I forget) like we told her. Then the cashier asked what she wanted from Santa and R just looked at me wanting to say the right thing but not sure what to say! I told her it is alright, and told the cashier that we don't celebrate Christmas. Unfortunately, I think that lady felt bad about it and the man on the elevator probably didn't.

I was thinking and don't know if Judaism (I am not very religious) has anything like "if you are bad this will/or will not happen to you". We don't have anything for kids like if you don't behave you will get coal instead of toys. We don't have if you aren't a good Jew you will go to hell instead of heaven. I guess that is a big difference. My daughter goes to a Jewish school and says there is "Rachamim" which means compassion and caring which is a base of how we should behave. I think it is a more of we should be good and compassionate and do these things, but because it is right not because if we don't something bad will happen... I think...

OK, I just added more books from my bookshelf to read. I know I have one which is comparison of Judaism and Christianity and one which is an adolescent's book by that Rabbi/Priest pair. Maybe after I finish the second Harry Potter, probably tomorrow. :-)

Sure Diane, come over. The boys can sleep together, girls together and you and dh on the futon in the basement. :-) You would need to sleep after 10 hour drive!

Believe it or not, I have never read the Harry Potter books. I just read this 1st one. It took me three days. I bet it would have been much faster if I hadn't seen much of the movie already. It seemed like I was reading a re-run :-) through most of the book. I hope for a better read with the second book (tomorrow) since I haven't seen any of that movie yet. Which of the HP books are said to be better then the other ones, or do people not talk like that? I konw people talk about which star trek and which Indiana Jones movie were better...

Oh, a friend told me that there is rumor of a new Indiana Jones movie coming out. That would be cool, except like how old is that man? He was not young when I was 25 and I am much older than that now. :-)

December 22 and I was outside today, laying on the grass reading a book... WOW, can you get better than that? How long will that dose of sun today keep my mood up? The sun was still pretty low, even if it was warm. BUT.... candlelighting time on Friday is getting later every week now, SO it is lighter later!!!! YEAH!!!!! It gets dark here about 4:45 or so... in Boston it was 4:15 at this time of year. That half an hour is one of the best things about Maryland vs. MA.

Time to scan pictures on my new printer/scanner tell you about it tomorrow!

Monday was 10 degrees, today will be 50... anyone ready to catch a cold? This is ridiculous!

I am going out to maybe buy a printer/scanner combo today. I have definite doubts whether this is a good idea... but I am going to do it anyway. :-P I will complain _ALOT_ when one of the components break real early and I have to buy both again!

We have had several friends over lately and it is nice that the kids are using the toys in the house again. Sometimes it takes a friend to want to play the stuff. I was telling one of the friends what she could choose from when we were coming back from rollerskating. My house sounds like an arcade! Foosball (set also has minipool, mini tennis and other stuff, but foosball is the best), air hockey (like 6ft!), medium size pinball machine (new Chanukah this year), basketball shooting thing, gamebox, computer gameS. Impressive, huh? Thank you Nana and family and several years of Chanukah presents. :-)

This isn't to say that we don't have regular toys. Legos, Knex, bionicals, play kitchen, blocks, doll houses , brio train stuff, gameboys, board games, toy animals, pokemon cards, crafts and lots of stuff. The back yard is also kid based. A wonderful house for kids. It would be a better house for adults if I put more kid stuff away! Another 1000 squard feet to put the kid stuff would be nice too. :-) Well, if I ever decide to open a daycare in my house I am ready!

R's school let out early today. Something about it being 16 stinking degrees outside and the heat not working properly. Something about them not wanting the kids to freeze there tushes off!

Winter break is starting soon! I am looking foward to sleeping in a little bit for a week. R is going to Karate camp so I have to get them all out of the house by 9:20. I guess I only have to get R dressed, but it will be nice if the other two and I can actually do something fun while R is in camp. If we come back at 9:30 in PJs then we probably wont get dressed till we have to pick up R at 4:30! A pajama day is nice... but no all vacation!
